With a look that could have frozen hell itself, the pilot eyed Hunter's male friends.

"Do you generally allow your males to chatter like hens?" She asked, "They seem to be lacking in discipline."

Hunter spun on her heel and ordered, "Sit down and no jabbering you lot!"

Akiahr, innocent of all charges, shrugged and dropped onto the couch on Alea's free side.

Skreet staggered over the threshold and into the room beyond. Norg led him to a couch and Skreet dropped his burden down with a sigh of relief.

"By the Egg! Those things should stop eating so much!" Skreet complained, "I won't carry it another step."

"Don't look at me," Norg answered, "You keep telling me that you're the stronger one."

Kev flitted from one window to the other, eyeing the approach to the little building.

Alea winced, but said nothing. Several things popped into her head, but she really didn't want to walk to civilisation. She took a closer look around her instead. It looked like something out of Star Wars.

With Alea's warm presence at his side, Akiahr let his head drop back against the ship's cool wall. Hunter smiled to herself as she watched him. It had taken her a long time to get used to his tomcatting, but it only bothered her a little now.

There was absolutely no stopping Zaraiin from seducing every female they came across. They had no understanding of monogamy and Hunter remembered when she had mentioned it to Akiahr years ago. He had been horrified. As far as he was concerned, it his pleasure as well as his duty, to breed as many individuals of the opposite sex as he could. The fact that she might be jealous was as strange to him as his ways were to her.

In fact, even now one of the ship's officers appeared to develop a saucy little sway to her hips as she passed the magnificent Zaraii. Hunter stifled a laugh when Akiahr cracked an eye open to peruse her from behind as she walked away.

Alea found having Akiahr that close very strange. She felt like electricity was running over her skin, and had an overwhelming desire to comb his unruly hair back with her fingers. But she was very concious of the fact that he was simply huge. Even sitting down he towered over her, the confined space exaggerating his size whereas the plains and jungle had diminished it.

She was glad Robin was holding her hand.

The sneering reception finally seemed to get it through to Corry that his usual devil-may-care attitude wasn't going to win him brownie-points. He opened his mouth to retort, reconsidered, and sat down beside Hunter in sullen silence.

Robin allowed himself a tiny smile, quickly smothered as he looked over both the ship's interior and its crew.

"How long do you think it will take to get to the city?" Alea asked Akiahr in a low voice. The craft looked like it could travel at quite a clip. She stretched out her legs and slumped a little. Once you stopped moving the adrenalin began to leave your system and Alea found herself tired and slightly hungry.

His voice a low rumble against the thrum of the ship's engines, Akiahr answered, "Not long. We will see the city within a span's time."

At the puzzled stares he got from his fellow passengers, Hunter explained, "About an hour."

"Wonderful," said Alea. "I could just about do with breakfast, or possibly lunch."

She slumped in the seat a little, wriggled to get comfortable, then closed her eyes.
