At last we were getting to the point of our call out! The Zarai woman dropped her gaze to her hands, sitting so quietly in her lap. I thought I saw her throat work in a nervous swallow. Maybe she wasn't the highest ranking member of the visiting aliens? Maybe she was only a 'go-fer,' brought along to serve her betters?
"I am afraid that of all the delegates, I am the least," she admitted, "I was only one who served her employer.
"When we first arrived, our security was very stringent. We had no reason to trust humans, but we wished to extend the hand of friendship and trade for the benefit of both of our peoples.
"After a time, we allowed our security to loosen. The Envoy herself thought it would make us seem..... more approachable? This last time, I beleive that the coffee could have been tampered with at any time, except after it reached these rooms."

"So you just used room service this time. Yes, that does open it up to just about anyone."
I thought about it for a moment. Okay, anyone could have tampered with the coffee on its way from kitchen to diplomat, but who wanted to? And why?
"You said you originally traded with the Fae long ago before they found it prudent to disappear. Was the purpose of this mission to reopen that trade, or were you planning to open trade with the other species on Earth as well?"

I watched as a corner of the woman's mouth kicked up in a grimace.
"It is no secret that we sought to open trade with all species here," she said thoughtfully. "Perhaps certain individuals became concerned that they would lose their market?"
My mind whirled. The Fae could be very disagreeable when they thought that they were getting the shitty end of the stick. I had no idea what Bardinski expected to do with this potential bombshell. I studied his face as he pondered which way to take the interrogation. It might wind up that both of our aliens could help our investigation. So far our suspect, the male, had been mute.
I felt movement near me and I turned to view that same male as he worked some of the larger crusty pieces from his jet-colored hair. His weird fingers combed through his locks until they hit a particularly stubborn bit. With a pained grunt, he yanked at it until it came free, tearing some hairs out as well.
After studying the clump for a moment, he dropped the mess on the sheets and went hunting for more. It probably didn't help that his hands were positively filthy. My teeth gritted in sympathy, until I'd had about enough. I grabbed at his hands to stop him.
"No -- don't do that," I protested as I held on, "That's got to hurt!"
I swung to glare at both Bardinski and the Zarai. "Why don't we get what we need off this guy and then let him get cleaned up?"
The slave twisted a bit to see me and I let my eyes meet his. I struggled out of those black, deep pools with difficulty.
"Um.... I isn't this kind of cruel, making him sit here all dirty and bloody? At least let me comb some of this crap from his hair into an evidence bag!"

"Certainly," I said to Lathrop. "After you've finished working the scene. We need photographs and sketches of everything just the way it was when we walked in before we change anything."
The boy-toy's pheremones must be working overtime, I thought. I didn't have to read Lathrop's files to know a good deal about her. Just the fact that she'd been assigned to this detail told me she had the makings of a fine officer; I was sure anyone assigned to me would ordinarily be conscientious and attentive to detail. Right now, though, I wouldn't guarantee Lathrop could find the floor with both feet, never mind her camera and such.
I turned back to the other woman.
"Can you speculate on who, on this planet, might profit by disrupting your diplomatic plans? Is it possible you have enemies off-planet who might object to those plans?"

There came a faint knock from outside the bedroom and a voice called through the thin crack of the door.
"Ah? It's Malone from forensics?" His voice held an upsweep in tone towards the end of every statement, as if he was questioning everything. "Can my team come in?"
"No!" The Zarai female appeared panicky. "Do not!" In a softer, but no less frantic timbre, she explained, "He won't let those males near us."
I eyed her speculatively and then called out, "Can you just shove some evidence bags and latex gloves through the crack?"
"Through the crack in the door?" Malone sounded confused.
"Yes," I answered, "We've got a shy witness in here. I'll be doing the collection."
A plastic baggy filled with smaller plastic baggies and some opaque gloves edged into the room. The big guy on the bed with me watched it poke farther and farther into sight with one elegantly raised eyebrow. The female got up, swiped the bag from the floor and passed it over.
"Comb?" I asked quickly.
She walked to the burled dresser and pulled what looked to be a golden comb out.
Before she handed it to me, I inquired, "Is that his?" I jabbed a finger at my buddy.
She nodded. Then she sat in the chair next to Bardinski and replied to his earlier question.
"If there are others who wish to see this mission fail, I do not know who they would be," she stated. "I am not the one to ask. She is dead at the hands of a poisoner.
"If you are asking if we have any enemies, then I would have to say yes, we do. Our species have long travelled all of the dimensions of space and we have not always been welcomed."
She shifted in her chair, so that she sat more at ease. "There are species who look upon traveller as enemies immediately and they live to fight and conquer.
"We do not like to establish trade with them, even if they have something that we want. Nothing is worth the effort of subduing a war-like species on their own planet."
I put on the gloves and listened as I bent to my work. What she was saying interested me greatly. Other dimensions? More aliens? It seemed as if mankind was about to get the biggest wake-up call of the millennium!
Parting a particularly sticky lock of the guy's black hair, I worked slowly and carefully to comb the bloody debris into the evidence bag. He stayed as still as he could, considering that it must have hurt. A few of his soft, long hairs came along with the blood.
I took samples from several places on his head, crawling around him and trying to keep my cop face in place. Those pheromones he was giving off were like some sort of aphrodesiac. Every time I touched him, I got an ache deep inside my stomach that did its damnedest to coax me closer.
He didn't help matters much either. My clothing must have intrigued him and the texture of my shirtsleeve drew his fingers like a magnet. I gave them impatient swats as I teased stuff out of his thick mop of hair.
I was relieved when I filled the last bag with samples. Then I sat back and gave my victim a wry smile. It was time to take evidence from his fingernails.

I had to admit, the girl could run. I looked at the FBI guy and McEnnery and grinned, placing an arm around him like an old buddy.
"Mulder meet McEnnery, McEnnery meet Mulder. Why don't you two chat while I look in the giftshop of clues?"
Cheesy, but it would work. I backed away from them as they stared at me, dodging bellboys as I put distance between me and them. It was time to do my own style of investigate into both matters.
Before they could stop me I turned and quickly made it through the employee's doorway. I went through and found the employee entrance, quickly leaving into the streets. I had some contacts to find. I vanished into the street crowd.

[Maire]
As the burly officer stared after Dyllon, Maire muttered to herself and bit her lip. Dyllon was getting under her skin in the worst way. He seemed as untouchable as mist and just about as easy to pin down.
She debated whether or not to go after him for all of about five seconds. Then, with her expression setin a stubborn frown, she tramped across the lobby and out the same door through which he exited, her fists clenched. If he wanted a chase, she'd give it to him, but first she had to get someplace away from the crowd. What she intended to do wasn't for mortal eyes.
Beyond the exit door lay a tiny square of dry grass. A half-empty wastebasket sat in the middle of a mess of sandwich wrappers and soft drink cans. Obviously this was where the staff came for outdoor lunch breaks and, Maire thought, most of them had terrible aim.
What was perfect for Maire's purposes was that it was deserted at this time of day and far enough away from the front entrance to be somewhat private. She began the mental process to trigger the change as she quickly doffed her clothing.
In moments, a large, black greyhound-like dog shook itself from head to tail. Happy to be back in her natural state, Maire's long whip thin tail wagged once before she put her nose to the grass.
She discovered that numerous picnickers had pets, three smoked, one was a bit lax in washing his feet. She sneezed in disgust! Again she dipped her head to the ground. Lunch had been an hour ago -- her canine stomach grumbled. She quartered the area and, tail waving, pieced together the place's story in minutes. Along the way, she scarfed down a few stray bits of ham and a bit of wax paper that must have held a piece of cake, since there was still a dollop of icing on it.
Suddenly, she caught Dyllon's scent! He must have been making tracks as he left because his trail was light and placed at wide intervals. He was running for all he was worth! Well, Maire panted happily, she'd show him what running was really like!
The city being as it was, full of scents and awfully loud, Maire kept checking Dyllon's trail every so often. As she rounded a corner of the hotel, she spotted three ravens squabbling over some french fries near the sidewalk. Claws dug into the ground as she pelted towards them. Her swift and silent approach scared the willies out of the birds, who took to the air squawking and complaining. Maire ignored their indignant cries and gobbled up the fries. Licking her lips, she raised her head and sniffed.
There! -- Dyllon's scent dallied in puffs of the city air! Maire broke into a ground-eating trot to follow it wherever it led.

Twenty minutes later, I was at a payphone. Slidding in a few quarters, I made a call to one of my contacts.
"Hello?"
"Donnie, this is Dyllon. I'm coming to university now. I need some information."
"Jesus Dyllon, I need a bit more time for prepare."
"You owe me Donnie, and I'm collecting."
A sigh. "Alright, just come through the side door this time. And don't stop in the girls' dorm."
I laughed, "Alright see ya." I turned and booked it to the next bus stop, arriving just as it came. I hopped on and flashed my fake bus pass as I found a seat.

[Maire McEnnery]
Maire arrived at the bus stop just in time to see the thing pull away from the curb, and to get a faceful of diesel fumes. After a brief sneezing fit, she took off at a ground-eating gallop.
The hounds of the Wild Hunt were reknowned and feared throughout the Fae realms for their tenacity, speed and endurance. The big black greyhound didn't even have to work up a good pant to chase after the bus. She loped along in its wake like a collie following her young master to school.
What Maire didn't expect was the screeching of tires from a side street. A quick glance to the side showed a large van with the words "Dog Catcher" across its hood zooming out in pursuit.

(OOC: So, there hasn't been a post here for a while, how about I try to get things going)
[Nehimiah, called Nem]
Nem smiled as a smile spread across the girl's face. As the Wonder touched her knee, the bone straightened and the skin knit back together, not even leaving a scar.
The Wonder laughed, and shook her shiny pale golden curls gaily, "Just remember little one," her melodious voice chimed, "Dangerous feats of bravery are better done near a doctors office." Still smiling, she removed a red sucker from her purse and gave it to the girl. She'd been carrying them around ever since Nem had showed her around his uncle's office.
Before his eyes the fey girl shifted to her true form, a larger than usual white alleycat, and scampered out into the streets; the sucker clasped between her jaws. "You know," he said, "Most doctors heal broken legs with time and a cast, not with a touch."
She smiled again, her beautiful face lighting up as she dusted off her blue jeans, and straigtened her knee length white coat. "Well, hopefully next time little Anna accidentily form shifts in the middle of death defying leap, a real doctor will be there to help her."
Nem helped her to her feet, and caught the scent of her hair, which smelled of spring. "We've been here for a while now, perhaps it's time we move on. There's a small town not to far from here.."
The Wonder eyed him. Her eyes were grey, like a misty dawn. "People still need me here Nem, I can't move on until my work is complete. I'll know when it's time."
"But we've been here for nearly three months, people are going to start hearing strange things about a beautiful girl who can heal with a touch and start asking questions."
The Wonder shook her head, and then stood stock still.
"Ther's trouble at the Pallisades."
Nem groaned, and dashed off after her, checking that the daggers strapped to his forarms and hidden beneath his sleeves were still in place.

[Nem]
The Wonder's brisk pace slowed suddenly. Nem slowed too.
"What's going on? I thought we were headed to the Pallisades?"
"We are, I'll only be a second." Nem wathced as she strode across the street to where a dog catcher was wrestling a net over a large black dog. He was losing, but the dog appeared to be getting incredibly agitated. It's Fey then, holding back so as not to reveal itself.
As he watched, the Wonder seemed to grow even more radiant. And she's not even directing it at me. Poor dog catcher doesn't stand a chance. The Wonder could not alter her form like most Fey, but she could change how people percieved her. Right now she was being sweet and innocent, but Nem had also seen her look incredibly powerful, meek and unnoticed, and uncanny and frightening.
Her voice chimed, pure as a bell. "Sir! Sir, that's my dog!
